SOLO Music Gear Electric Guitar Kits SGK-1 Editorial Review
The Solo SG Style DIY Guitar Kit, SGK-1, offers a fun and rewarding building experience for guitar enthusiasts. The kit includes a mahogany body and a maple neck, which provides a solid and durable foundation. The bolt-on Construction makes installing the neck easy with the supplied screws and neck plate. Customers have praised the overall quality of the kit, expressing enjoyment in the process of sanding, painting, and assembling the guitar. The natural wood finish has received positive feedback, with one customer applying mineral oil after sanding for a unique look. The selection of woods used in the kit is also appreciated. However, some customers have encountered difficulties with the wiring process. One customer had trouble following the provided diagram, resulting in a non-functioning guitar. They expressed disappointment in the lack of support from Solo for this part of the process. Another customer found the electronics not to their liking and ended up replacing them. In terms of Construction, some customers mentioned that the headstock cutting was not as precise as they would have liked, with one customer describing it as "a bit sloppy." Additionally, one customer mentioned that the nut sat a bit high and required sanding down to properly set the action. Overall, the Solo SG Style DIY Guitar Kit, SGK-1, offers a worthwhile and enjoyable building experience. However, potential buyers should be aware of the potential challenges with the wiring process and the need for attention to detail in Construction.
